Referral Marketing Better Then Affiliate Marketing?

newsblog_hdr.gif

Zachary Rodgers at the ClickZ news blog picks up on a discussion we’ve been having over at ReveNews that I started last week about renaming affiliate marketing.

Craig Danuloff chimes in with a good option: Referral Marketing. What do you think? I think I like that the best so far.

This is a hot topic in the affiliate marketing circles. I’ve been approached by many people privately to discuss it even further. Is it truly possible to change it? Who knows? But it’s worth talking about.

Actual Amazon.com Reviews...

"Jim Kukral's new book pisses me off. And not because it's a lousy book, and reading it was a waste of time. His book pisses me off because in it, Jim interviews really, really, successful people who ARE living their dreams. And, I'm jealous. I want a turn, you know?" - Joel Libava

"I loved this short, informative, encouraging e-book. The stories of others who have been successful building a business around their lifestyle is a wake up call for me to get off my butt and do it! Thanks Jim for this book!" - Sienna

"I was having kind of a blah day, I read this book, now I feel like a million bucks and have renewed inspiration to go make a million bucks." - Eric Woodard

I don’t know… I’m still unsure of how this will eventually shake out.

Do we need to change terms to shift branding? At first blush, I’d say an emphatic yes.

But, maybe we can redeem affiliate marketing as a term… maybe affiliate marketing 3.0 (or 1.1) would be better than chucking the whole paradigm to find a more acceptable term.

    It’s an odd debate.

Are there any corollaries to other industries doing similar things? Maybe we should call Karl Rove since he’s going to be free in a few years.
