Affiliate Marketing Friends Have Helped Raise Over $500 So Far
Tuesday
Feb 27, 2007
We’ve passed the $500 mark of donations raised for charity over at AffiliateMarketingFriends.com. I wanted to thank all of those who have participated so far. The page is starting to fill up and it looks great!

There’s still plenty of time to get in and get your spot. Some banner spots up top available as well, very cheap.
Update: I’ve decided that the money should go to an organization in my hometown that is doing some AMAZING things. This page should say it all. These are amazing people who have been through a parent’s worst nightmare, and now they use what they’ve learned to help others.
Have A Beer With Me?
Monday
Feb 26, 2007
I’ve been working non-stop for the last week or so, day and night. It just occured to me that I need a break, and a beer. Otherwise I face another panic attack like a few weeks ago.
My beer consumption drastically dropped over 5-years ago when my wife got pregnant with our first child. The second child followed 3-years later, and here we are, over 5-years later and I don’t drink hardly ever.
You know, sometimes you just have to take a break and relax and kick back. I’m going upstairs now and busting open a cold Bass. Join me?
(insert beer pouring sound here)
What’s your favorite beer? Prefer another beverage, even non-alcoholic? Tell me what you like to have when you relax by leaving a comment below.
New York Times: Shmuly-Tube Tearing Down The Walls
Monday
Feb 26, 2007
Well, well, well. Shmuly made it into the New York Times, with a lead in on Techmeme today.
As Sam points out, “traditional walls between media, content and creation are crumbling all around us”. Yep, and this is further, real, proof of that.

No one would mistake the Ask a Jew guy for Lonelygirl15, but these days YouTube contributor Shmuel Tennenhaus is feeling like a hot commodity.
Mr. Tennenhaus, an aspiring comedy writer who gained a modest following on YouTube for his droll question-and-answer clips and other spots featuring his grandmother “Bubby,†is being wooed by the site’s competitors, including Metacafe, ManiaTV and others, with promises of guaranteed exposure, a share of advertising money, or both.
“It’s all very odd,†said Mr. Tennenhaus, speaking from Hallandale, Fla. His YouTube channel, Oneparkave, has logged roughly 32,000 visits and a few hundred subscribers since last fall. “My parents say I’m special, but I can’t imagine I’m the only guy they’re contacting.â€
It’s not odd to me Shmuly. From the time we added you to our blogging list at ReveNews last year, I always knew you “had it”. The question is now, how far can you “take it”?
The Big Brown Box Project Is Coming
Sunday
Feb 25, 2007
Awesome Dave and I have been secretly plotting out our next project, one that we hope will top the Awesome Million. It’s called BigBrownBox.com, and it’s almost ready to go live.
We have one problem. We can’t find a box.
We’re looking for a box about the size of dishwasher. So I went to Sears and asked for a box, but they said they immediately cut the boxes down, so no luck, and I’m not buying a dishwasher just to get the box. Then I went to the UPS store, and they don’t have a box that big. So I started driving behind strip malls on my way home from work looking for boxes.
Any ideas on where to look for a box of that size?

Shoemoney & MyBlogLog Make Up - View Shoe’s Secret Yahoo! Check
Saturday
Feb 24, 2007
Most of you might have heard that MyBlogLog apologized to Shoemoney.
What you may not know about the whole saga may shock you. I’ve obtained secret documents and photos that show that Yahoo! was so upset about the branding disaster they had created that they sent Shoemoney a check to ask him to stop talking about it.
The secret photo is below. You’ll notice I’ve added red arrows to show the proof. I can’t say I blame you Shoe, that’s an awesome check! Click image to see bigger if you can’t make it out.
Disclaimer: Obviously, I hope, you realize this is a spoof post? It’s a joke people. This isn’t real. I can’t believe I have to say that. My lame Photoshop skills should be proof enough?
Idea Consultants Must Have A Plan & Be Able To Solve Problems
Saturday
Feb 24, 2007
Aaron Wall over at SEOBook (that’s my affiliate link, buy the book and get me a spiff I’d appreciate it) has a good post called ‘Hiring the Ideas Guy‘.

As more and more content is created there are more publishers than there are good ideas, which means publishers are hungry to spread the few good ideas that exist. What separates a profitable channel from a money loser is typically two things: ideas and execution.
Righto.
The reason consultants can charge $500 to $1,000 an hour is because they can create and spread good ideas that create significant market leverage and value quickly.
Yep, and here’s my own additional thoughts on “being an idea guy”. As I said in the comments on Aaron’s post…
I’m an idea guy as well, but I can, and do execute. You just have to have the resources to get r’ done.
Here’s a mistake you should never make that I did once. Don’t pitch yourself as an idea guy, pitch yourself as an idea guy who implements. Most people hear “idea guy” and think, “Oh, he wants a big paycheck for sitting around thinking about stuff.”
See, most people want consultants to solve problems. Whether it’s time, or saving money, or whatever. So for an “idea guy” to come in and get the job, they have to solve one of those problems, or whatever it is the customer needs. So, ask them right up front.
“What problems do you have?”
Then, come in as the idea guy and solve it, with an execution plan. That’s how you get work as an idea consultant.
Viral Marketing Works When It’s Useful & Interesting… & Easy
Saturday
Feb 24, 2007
Seth Godin is right, as usual. Check out this fun little, yet very simple tool.
It’s viral because it’s interesting, not because it’s accurate. And it’s interesting partly because it talks about how much money you have. Sort of the new fortune telling.

So let’s review. This works because it’s easy, fun, useful, interesting… When you work on projects, do you strive for those things? If not, are you sure you’re on the right track?
Uh-Oh, Techcrunch Grabbed The MyBlogLog Story

Thanks to Sam for pointing this out to me. I wrote about this last night here.
Judging by the first comment at TC (below), I can already see where this will be going. Not good for MBL.
Holy Christ, what kind of developer doesn’t encrypt their login cookies? That’s not a security hole, it’s just awful programming.
