How Do I Find & Hire A Search Engine Firm?
Friday
Jun 29, 2007
Todd has a wonderful list of “things” to look for when you’re searching for a search engine firm for your business.
Disclaimer: I am a partner with a top 20 USA search firm who let me offer free traffic and keyword reports. Click here for your free report.
Do your homework when searching for an SEO company. Don’t shop on price…shop on return on your dollar invested. Here are some questions to ask when doing your research.
1. What type of techniques do you use to achieve rankings?
2. What type of risk is involved with this method?
3. What will happened if our relationship is dissolved?
4. Can you show me examples of past work?
5. What was the client’s ROI?
6. What type of volume increase in traffic is reasonable to expect?
7. How long until I start to see results?
8. What would you expect from OUR end to aid your work?
9. What were some of your top search ranking achievements?
10. Do you offer any other internet marketing services to supplement your SEO offerings?Look for good return on your dollar, and a company that understands business, marketing, technology, and the internet extensively. There are A LOT of different level SEO’s out there at this point. The biggest companies AREN’T ALWAYS best for the buck, but there is much less risk associated with your investment. Research and find a company that you are comfortable with. If this didn’t help you, here are a whole bunch more questions to ask your potential SEO companies, and what to look for in an SEO company.
Pownce Looks Awesome - Like Twitter But Better
Thursday
Jun 28, 2007
Mashable has got me all excited about Kevin Rose’s latest Twitter killer Pownce. Anyone got an invite for me?
Enter Pownce, Kevin Rose’s latest startup, which we were extremely skeptical about when it first arrived on the scene less than 24 hours ago. Who needs yet another IM client, we wondered. Well, we still stand by that: it IS just another IM client. But this one simple feature, for an IM-junkie like me, is vital.
Send files to one person, everyone, or a group of people - we’ve been waiting for this feature for all our online lives.
And it is this: on Pownce, you can send a message, or a file, or a song, or an event, to one person; or three of your friends; or only your family; or everyone. That’s right, you can engage in private conversations, you can speak to the world, you can have a group of close friends, and a group of associates, and a group of unknown people you just added to your profile, and you can choose when you want to send stuff to any of these groups. With this simple feature Pownce trounces all over Twitter, and comes close to being more useful than most IM clients.
Going To The Affiliate Summit? Here’s Some Things You Need To Know
Tuesday
Jun 26, 2007
I’ve only missed one Affiliate Summit. It was the one on the cruise to Nova Scotia. As I said a few days ago, the Affiliate Summit East in July is sold out.
So are you going? First time? Not sure what to expect? I’ve gotten a bunch of emails from people I know who are going for the first time, so here’s some reading.
It just so happens that I wrote a series of posts back on ReveNews before the last show (Jan 2007) explaining all about the Summit. Here you go.
Part 1 - Getting started
Part 2 - Talk & Prep
Part 3 - Vlogterview with Shawn Collins
Part 4 - Video highlights
Part 5 - Last minute show notes
Highlights: Make sure you check out the ABW forum on the Summit for all the juicy tidbits and party stuff. The Summit blog is a great place to get info too.
Last thing, have you ordered your business cards? Have enough? Bring 1,000 or more. Seriously. See you in the Bloghaus, you better come by and say hello.
New Blog: How To Do Video
Tuesday
Jun 26, 2007
Today I launched my newest blog called HowToDoVideo.com. As Sam more eloquently points out…
Jim Kukral has launched an interesting new blog with a focus on the online video industry and landscape. The site, HowToDoVideo.com, looks to be a mix of coverage, instruction and editorial content. There aren’t a ton of good reads in this space, so I’m excited that Jim has thrown his hat into the ring since he knows how to produce great blogs!

Another blog Jim? Well, I must say the decision to create this blog is primarily because I’ve noticed my interests have shifted away from writing about blogging and online marketing and more to the business of online videos. So my plan is to keep JimKukral.com full of branding, blogging and marketing content, and keep all of my video thoughts over there.
I hope you enjoy the new blog. I’m looking forward to writing it. There’s a lot going on in the online video space and I have a lot to say about it.
Particularly, look for a big announcement from me about this in July.
Affiliate Summit Is Sold Out - See You In The Bloghaus
Monday
Jun 25, 2007
Yep, it sold out, again. Congrats to Shawn and Missy for producing yet another sell-out and sure to be great show. They keep rolling and rolling.
Why? Because the shows are that good. You think people keep coming back because they stink? Nope. If you didn’t get your ticket this time; that’s a shame because I was looking forward to meeting you.
If you did get a ticket, I’ll be seeing you around. Please stop and say hello to me if you’re near the media/blogging room of which I’ll be hosting.
Movable Type Gets Its Social Network On - A Reason To Go Back?
Monday
Jun 25, 2007
Finally, an actual reason to use MT again?

Six Apart today announced new solutions that will enable businesses to build powerful social media and blogging communities on top of Movable Type 4.
The Movable Type Enterprise Solution enables companies to integrate their blogging and social media efforts into their existing IT systems. Expanding on Movable Type 4’s built-in capability to create and manage thousands of blogs and users, the Enterprise Solution’s LDAP directory server integration and support for enterprise-class databases– including Oracle 10g and Microsoft SQL Server – make it easier than ever to deploy and manage employee and departmental blogs.
The Movable Type Community Solution makes it possible to create a custom social media platform that can attract larger audiences, increase audience engagement, and improve loyalty. Where Movable Type 4 on its own allows for registering and managing site members, the Community Solution incorporates rich member profiles, member blogs, “Digg-style†recommendation tools and other features that help new and returning visitors engage with the site and one another.
I’ll tell you what. I used MT for years before switching to Wordpress, and I wish I could have all of those years back. ReveNews was on MT when I took it over, and I can tell you it was a complete and utter pain to work in across the scale we had with the layouts/templates we had and I wanted. Honestly, I can say that if it was in Wordpress I would have spent thousands of hours less working on it. Thousands and thousands.
But now MT might make a social network on top of the MT install, and that intrigues me enough to have another look.
The Future Of Politics & Online Video - Fame Wins?
Monday
Jun 25, 2007
Loren doesn’t like the Hillary Clinton spoof on the Soprano’s movie. He thinks it’s a disgrace.
Let me just say this. I also think it’s a disgrace that our politics have turned into who can entertain the most. However, that makes me more disgusted for our country and our future as opposed to just being disgusted about Hillary. She’s just playing the game. Wait until the Obama team finally hires a good video company.
Look, this next presidential election is going to really open the doors for the next level of political fame, and I don’t think it’s necessarily a good thing. On one hand it’s great to see the candidates up-close and personal, but on the other hand, it’s scary to think that perhaps the person to be elected will be the person with the best video on YouTube.
Scared? I am.
Hillary Video.

Business.com For $300 Million?
Friday
Jun 22, 2007
I’d pay $300 million for Business.com if I had it.

But… Wired has a good point.
When I found out that Kevin Rose originally wanted Dig.com but settled for Digg.com instead, I remember thinking that sometimes a domain can be “too” perfect. I like “digg” much better than “dig.” I lost my domain puritanism for good when I watched BoingBoing.net hit number one on Technorati despite the unsexy dot net domain. Business.com will never be worth $400 million, but it would be entertaining to see it sell for such an insane price.
Did you know that Google creators originally were going to get something like Goggle (I think), and they typed Google by accident in the search box?
$300 million seems steep, but so did $7.5 million back in 99 when they bought it. What would/could it be worth in 5 more years?
Can You Count To One Million?
Thursday
Jun 21, 2007
Well, can you? Not sure? Watch this dude try, live. http://www.millioncount.com
This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen today… that I didn’t think of first… that I love. He’s nuts, like me. Great work million guy.
Lifestyle How-To Videos
Tuesday
Jun 19, 2007
The other day I wrote about Videojug.com. I heard from someone at Videojug.com a few hours later asking me if I wanted to interview their CEO and I agreed. So as soon as my questions I sent over get answered I’ll post them here.
But for now, check out some of these videos I’ve found at Videojug.com. These are interesting to me because they’re not the typical “how-to mow the lawn” or “how-to cook chicken for dinner” videos.
I guess I would call them Lifestyle how-tos. Check some of these out.
This one is about how to kiss. Where was this when we were growing up?
VideoJug: How To Kiss Someone Passionately
How about this one instructing you how to put on a condom. “Hey son, come over to my laptop and watch this video”. How long will it be before they have one ‘How to get it on?’ haha.
VideoJug: How To Put On A Condom
This one is pretty funny. How to be the perfect girlfriend.
