The Google Squidoo Spank Is No B.S.

Look at this chart from Earners Blog.

Bombs away! However, I do believe that they will recover once they weed out the black hat and crap. Give it time, maybe next Spring, and we’ll see a Squidoo revival.
Video Ninjas Show #2
Tuesday
Jul 31, 2007
Steve and I handled our second show this week, live on WebmasterRadio.fm. Steve did the show live from a park in downtown San Francisco. What you may not know is that Steve and I do the show through Skype, using headsets, piped directly into the studio. Sounds pretty good!
Listen to the show archive here.
This week we talked about a myriad of online video topics. Including YouTube now showing thumbnails in widescreen, or 16:9 format. We also talked briefly about Microsoft Silverlight. The second half of the show we delved into the psychology of videos, in relation to the Mike Vick story (dog fighting). Go to www.videoninjas.tv to see some of the videos we’re talking about. Also, check out the Michael Vick channel we setup after the show.
Overall, a great show for our second effort. We’re looking for guests, so email us at ninjas@videoninjas.tv if you want to be on the show, or you have a video related product you’d like us to take a look at.
Remember, you can listen live every Tuesday at 4pm, or just grab the feed and listen when you want to.
Ted Murphy Is A Fucking “Evil” Marketing Genius?
Tuesday
Jul 31, 2007
I agree with Loren. Ted Murphy isn’t evil as Arrington says. In fact, if you read my blog, you’ll know that I turned my opinion on Ted a long time ago and proclaimed him a fucking marketing genius.
Which, by the way is #1 on Google for that term now Ted.

And he continues to keep that moniker.
Case in point, watch Ted at MESH baiting Mke Arrington of Techcrunch.
Disclaimer: I’m on a panel at Postiecon in the fall. Looking forward to meeting Ted and learning how I can also be an evil fucking marketing genius too.
Video Landing Page Examples?

Anyone have any video landing page examples they want to share with the class?
My definition: A landing page specifically designed to incorporate a user created, embedded, video.

Facebook’s Secret Rate Card Exposed!

Valleywag has the story.

Here’s the part I was interested in.
The main question, though, is how much its sponsorship business can grow without offending users. Only one sponsored story can show up at a time on a user’s homepage, which limits inventory. And with Facebook apps now vying for users’ attention, will sponsored groups still spread as quickly from user to user?
We need a word for this. You know, the time between when a startup is ad free and then that critical point when they “turn on the ads”.
What to call it? Any suggestions? It needs a buzz word.
Make Money Online Tools & Resources
Monday
Jul 30, 2007
Mashable does it again, this time with a post that near and dear to my own heart. 100+ make money online tools and resources.
Amazing list, although I see a few missing. Particularly my own Scratchback.com and my old network. To their defense, SB isn’t even released yet, but will need to be on that list once it is.
I encourage you to look through this list and see what works for you and your website/blog. I’ve used almost all of these, I think. How many have actually made me money? A handful.
No PayPal Option At Checkout? No Business From Me!
Sunday
Jul 29, 2007
I don’t get why every online store doesn’t have a PayPal option? I mean, if you’re going to accept credit cards, and even checks, why not have a PayPal option?

Case in point, I was going to send a Don’t Piss Off The Blogger t-shirt to Shoemoney for his Friday t-shirt concept. So I went to dontpissofftheblogger.com, a store that I created in Spreadshirt, and thought I’ll buy one and send it over to him.
But… guess what, I can’t pay via PayPal on Spreadshirt. Why the heck not?

I’ve been trying to think of a reason to not have a PayPal, or heck, even Google checkout, option in ANYONE’S shopping cart. Yet, for the life of me, I cannot figure it out.
Here’s why I don’t get it. I use PayPal as kind of my “fun money” account. In other words, the money in there isn’t “real” to me. I use it to buy impulse purchases and fun things I want that I would normally never pull out a credit card for.
Awesome Million is built solely on PayPal as the only transaction method, specifically because I didn’t believe that most people would drop $5 on their credit card for something so trivial and fun and impulse-ish (I know that’s not a word).
Scratchback will also function solely on PayPal too. You’ll see why soon enough.
So Jeremy, no t-shirt for you. Time to find another store where I can create a new t-shirt. Anyone know of one that accepts PayPal?
YouTube Is Screwed?
Saturday
Jul 28, 2007
What’s not clear about this copyright tool for YouTube is if it will effect the millions of infringed videos ALREADY sitting on their network?
I’m very surprised this is coming so quickly. Frankly, I just don’t see how YouTube will be able to survive long term when you enforce this? There are too many videos out there that will NEED to be removed from the network.
I’m going to guess here and say that over 50% of every video they have is infringing on some type of copyright. Can YouTube just stop the news ones? Is that enough? I’m not sure. Fascinating though.
Anticipation Is A Bitch
Friday
Jul 27, 2007
Scratchback is still in development, longer than expected. Not because it’s causing problems for my dev, or because it’s too complex… just because he’s a highly sought after professional developer who’s busy as you know what.
So I wait. Patiently. Anticipation is a bitch.
Meanwhile, I’m spending a lot of time prepping the marketing for it. Gotta shoot some videos too. Overall, a lot of fun for a project I’m truly passionate about.
I can’t wait. Well, I have to, dammit!
