Can You Become An Entrepreneur?

Make money teaching a class at Prfessor.com

Or is it just born in you? What do you think? Is it possible to change who you are? Would you even want to? Today I chat with Suzanne Mulville, author of “From Employee to Entrepreneur“.

entSuzanne and I chat about many questions regarding being and becoming an entrepreneur.

Questions like… Is it possible to “become” an entrepreneur? What does it take? And triggers that people face when they’re considering making the jump. For example, you may ask yourself as you sit in your horrible job you hate, how long do you want to tolerate being unhappy?

It might be time to listen to this podcast and find out if it’s possible to make the switch to a new lifestyle.

  • I think it is possible to change who you are, but it may not be easy. The transition from an employee to an entrepreneur can be challenging.
  • Yeah, exactly. I may depend on how bad you want things like freedom, and oh yeah, paying your own insurance, etc... :)_
  • Anything is possible. I am a retired paramedic / firefighter and I just re-invented myself as a writer, blogger and internet marketer.

It only takes desire and motivation!

  • Jim,
    Great podcast. Excellent interview.
You're exactly right - there's no reason to stay in a job you hate. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • I am glad you liked it and I hope you found it inspiring!
  • I think that we are all entrepreneurs, but the degree of risk that we take varies from our comfort levels with risk.

Jim, good interview with Suzanne. I liked what she said about successful entrepreneurs being a result of personal development, and not being birthed through any type of business training. An observation I've made over the years is that many 'successful' entrepreneurs have inherited their traits at a young age through entrepreneurial type mentors - such as parents, or some other strong influencer. These traits are part of our foundational personality, not something given us at a weekend seminar, etc. Even universities at their best teach us how to work for other people. To generalize I would say "successful entrepreneurial skills aren't taught, they're inherited.
  • Good point about universities teaching people to work for other people.
  • That looks like a great book, reminds me of the E-Myth. Have you read that, and how do they compare?
  • It’s a great interview with some very useful thoughts.

    On the whole, it’s inspiring.

I think being entrepreneur is a lifetime option. Nobody can claim that being an entrepreneur is the best option we have. We are different. We have different value. The question is not whether we can be an entrepreneur. First of all, we should ask,"Do you really want and be happy when becoming an entrepreneur?"
  • I think that most entrepreneurs have a quality that is in them.. something you can't easily obtain...however, i know many people who are successful cause they work hard
  • This is very good advice. Anyone can do it. It takes personal qualities not smarts. And these personal
qualities can be worked on and developed. Most important of all, you have to have passion about what
you are doing, and you then have to take action. So very true.
  • yes the question is very simple and right on the face.

But I have no answer and I have no answer to all the questions that you posed after that and I guess that makes me a bit of a non-starter.

I think that instead of me going by my heart I have to listed to practical advice.
