No Google Juice? No Tip For You?
Donna over at Seo-Scoop.com wrote a ponderous post today musing about why more people in the SEO industry aren’t more willing to advertise if no Google juice is involved. I love Scratchback and the whole concept behind it (Scratchback is that widget to the right that says Are You In My TopSpots?). I might not be totally crazy about the nofollowed links, but hey, they are Google-friendly, so I’m doing the “right thingâ€, right? I understand people don’t... Read More »
Link Sellers: Google Don’t Want Yo Money
Today, in what means to me that they REALLY mean business, Google decided that you can’t advertise with them if you’re trying to promote the selling of links that pass page rank. Google continues to crack down on those text link advertising methods which don’t carry the “nofollow†attribute as a “machine-readable disclosure.†The latest move, triggered by communication between Google’s web spam team and the Google AdWords... Google Universal Search Ramping Up To Go Mainstream?
I’m a big believer in Google Universal Search, the video piece of it at least. Heck, I directed and wrote a video commercial for it. That’s me “the boss” in the beginning. I’ve even helped build an entire business model around it. So I’m constantly monitoring the Google looking for indications that it’s finally going to roll out on a full-scale. Why it’s taking so long, I’m not sure. I guess more testing. But when it... Read More »

Internet Video Marketing - The Next Step For Search
It’s very interesting to see how search is evolving these days. We have the whole paid links controversy heating things up again, as always, plus much more debate about the search industry as well. It’s never ending. What’s more interesting to me is how search has evolved and continues to do so. The latest evolution comes in the form of online video, or, Internet video marketing, which is the process of producing high-quality video content for the purpose... Read More »
You Can Do Search Yourself?
Sure, anyone can. But it’s not as easy as they make it look (WSJ online). C’mon. I can install a toilet in my house too, but do I want to? No. You want search help, this is how you do it. Most of the time it’s better to hire an expert to do it for you. Unless you have tons of time you feel like wasting? Doesn’t make sense to me, never did. Read More →

Microsoft Adcenter Labs Tools - Why Bother?
Have you tried the Microsoft Adcenter Labs tools yet? I just played around with them after reading this blog post ‘Microsoft is really trying‘. Want to know what I learned? First I tried a tool that is so sexily named Detecting Online Commercial Intention. In other words? Microsoft adCenter can detect your customers’ intention to purchase products or acquire information. For example, if a customer searches for LCD monitor, it is likely that he or she wants... Seth Gets Google, Do You?
Seth Godin gets Google. Ok, it’s not just me saying this, you realize that right? Bold emphasis is mine. In reference to this piece from the NYTimes. The big takeaway for me is that there are [x] number of people, where x is a large number, working in a secret building at Google constantly changing the algorithms that they use to rank sites. Being first in the Google rankings is more important than it ever was. And getting there is now more straightforward (but not... Read More »
Search Engine Marketing Just Got A Bit More Complicated Thanks To Google
It is happening sooner than I expected, and on a bigger scale, but I was right. Google universal search is here, and that means that video is going to start ranking in the regular search results. After years of people ignoring tabs and links designed to get them to do specialized searches, Google is taking the plunge to push the right buttons behind the scenes and make specialized or vertical search results part of the “normal” experience. Check out Danny Sullivan’s... Read More »
Why Do My Search Engine Rankings Vary From Search Engine To Search Engine?
Ever wonder how your blog or website ranks on different search engines? Ever wonder why there is a difference? I recently noticed a lot of traffic coming in from MSN.com, so I investigated further and noticed I was doing quite well on terms that I had never really spent any time optimizing for. Case in point, I recently discovered that JimKukral.com shows up as… #2 result in MSN.com for “online consulting“. I’m also #5 for “online consulting... Read More »

Why Don’t Businesses Invest In Search Engine Optimization?
Riddle me this. Why doesn’t a company like American Greetings have search engine optimized websites? Case in point, take a look on Google for “party invitations“. The AG site comes up as a result on page two, halfway down (go figure eh?). And upon further inspection, there’s not even a well written title tag on the result page that showed up… or on ANY of the pages on the rest of the site. You gotta love it. Go to the birthday invitations page.... Read More »
