Web Video Advertising - How Much Does It Cost?

Daisy Whitney wrote a very nice article at WebVideoReport.com about costs associated with running video ads, or ads on video on some big sites. She looked at ad-rates and ad options for a few sites, including the Wall Street Journal, YouTube, Metacafe, MySpace and a few others. Summary: Get your your wallet and open wide. YouTube won’t even talk to you unless you’re going to spend $50k. The company said on its site: “Currently you can apply to advertise... Read More »

Five Reasons You Aren’t Watching Internet Video On Your TV… Yet

The Wall Street Journal came up with five reasons that nobody is watching internet video on their TV’s. Read this chart. Nuff said? Don’t confuse this. People ARE watching online videos, just not on their TV sets. In August, Internet users in the U.S. viewed 9.13 billion online videos, up 26% from 7.24 billion in January, estimates research firm comScore Inc. Here are the five reasons they give. THE PROBLEM: Too Many Boxes Let’s start with one of the most... Read More »

YouTube Partner Status Now An Application Away

Looks like you can apply to be a YouTube partner now. Previously, you had to just wait and hope you were invited. After a long period of soul searching, YouTube has expanded its partnership program to allow anyone in the United States and Canada to apply for acceptance. The partnership program, launched in May, allows users to earn a share of ad revenue on the site. It’s no secret that I hope use The Daily Flip show to become a partner in a few months. I can see the... Read More »

Online Videos Convert For My Marketing Consulting Business

I just finished writing up a piece over at ReveNews about how online video converts… well. I’m sure you’re getting the point I keep driving in, over and over, and over? Online video is where it’s at. Check out this chart. As I said at ReveNews… So first look at the left pie chart on the left. 59% of the people surveyed admitted to having seen a video on the Internet. Not sure what planet the “I don’t know” 14% live on. Now... Read More »

Online Video Ads Mean Big Bucks For You

As Beet.tv is reporting, YouTube overlay ads are beginning to appear all over the place. Want to see it in action? Try this video from Tim Carter. You’ll notice the little yellow bar in the player… that shows where the ad is going to play (if there is one, you may have to refresh as the ads don’t load every time). Here’s a screen grab of an ad on that video. Relevant ad for some kind of DIY network. So why is this important to you? If you’re... Read More »

Chasing Viral Videos Is As Dumb As Chasing Web Traffic

If you read this “guide to viral video” at Techcrunch, there are actually some really good tips in there about tags, and other tips about how to create videos that people want to watch. But in the end, the article is crap for you and me… why? Because viral videos are a waste of your time, just like traffic. You tell me something. How do you monetized a viral video? Seriously, I want you to explain to me how to do it? That article didn’t explain... Read More »

So Adsense now comes to video, and the big question everyone wants to know now is… How do I become a YouTube partner so I can earn the big bucks from the new Adsense video ads? Well, guess what, it’s not going to be easy. Here’s what we know. 1. There are about 100 pre-selected partners already who have signed agreements with Google. For now, the system’s scope, and its potential to deliver new revenue to Google, is limited, because only about 100... Read More »

Syndicated YouTube Video Ads Means BIG Bucks For Video Publishers

Game on for video publishers. There is officially no reason to not get into the video business. In another HUGE move by GoogTube, they have announced that they’ll begin showing videos as ad on “other” websites. What does this mean? Let’s examine it. With the new twist, websites participating in AdSense now can sign up to specify the kinds of YouTube videos they want shown on their pages. A website focused on automobiles, for instance, might want to... Read More »

A College Class Teaching YouTube?

A sign of the times? Or a clever publicity stunt? Probably a bit of both. A college has decide to teach a class on YouTube. For the first time this fall, Pitzer is offering a class about the popular video-sharing Web site, and every session is being filmed and posted on that site (not quite live, but close to it). You can see it for yourself, more than 30 minutes of the opening class, right here on the course’s YouTube page. You can see the professor, who introduces... Read More »

Wag The Dog, YouTube Style

Faking “viral” success is now a tactic that media companies are using according to this piece at the WSJ. A 24-year-old singer and guitarist named Marié Digby has been hailed as proof that the Internet is transforming the world of entertainment. What her legions of fans don’t realize, however, is that Ms. Digby’s career demonstrates something else: that traditional media conglomerates are going to new lengths to take advantage of the Internet’s... Read More »

YouTube In Player Related Videos Work How?

Good question. You would think that they work because of titles, descriptions and tags. But take a look at this graphic below. You’ll see that if you watch this video, at the end, you’ll see that they don’t match. Repeat: The related videos in the sidebar are NOT the same as at the end of the video. In fact, the video that shows up as the related video in the player is a questionable video of a woman “shaking her thing”. What does that have... Read More »

How Does YouTube Rank Videos For Organic Search?

If I knew, I’d be selling you the answer. I have done extensive research on this thought and I’ve narrowed it down to one all determining factor. Quality of Video. Go ahead, do a search for any competitive term on YouTube and tell me if you can figure out why they rank videos the way the do. It does not have anything to do with date uploaded, that’s for sure. Things that “may” come into play are ratings, subscriptions, comments, friends, etc… But... Read More »

Jaffe Says YouTube Is Dumb, I Disagree

Joseph Jaffe on MPDailyFix (where we both blog) says YouTube be dumb. I wrote another post after disagreeing. Who’s right? Me said this… YouTube didn’t do this to make money. If you look at the numbers in this, the projected revenue they can earn from this is very, very small compared to their net worth and gross revenue. Nope, this ain’t about the money. This is about being first. And continuing to be #1. YouTube/Google holds the world’s largest... Read More »

YouTube Is Screwed?

What’s not clear about this copyright tool for YouTube is if it will effect the millions of infringed videos ALREADY sitting on their network? I’m very surprised this is coming so quickly. Frankly, I just don’t see how YouTube will be able to survive long term when you enforce this? There are too many videos out there that will NEED to be removed from the network. I’m going to guess here and say that over 50% of every video they have is infringing... Read More »

Solving Problems For People Is The Key To Success!

Success comes to those who help people solve problems. Case in point, I have been struggling with how to get my videos uploaded to many online video sharing sites. It’s a huge time waster, believe me. Today I ran across a new tool called Video Post Robot (full review at Howtodovideo.com). Check it out. In essence, the software allows me to save a ton of time uploading videos to sites like YouTube, Metacafe, Blip.tv, etc… All with the click of a button. Does your... Read More »

The Future Of Politics & Online Video - Fame Wins?

Loren doesn’t like the Hillary Clinton spoof on the Soprano’s movie. He thinks it’s a disgrace. Let me just say this. I also think it’s a disgrace that our politics have turned into who can entertain the most. However, that makes me more disgusted for our country and our future as opposed to just being disgusted about Hillary. She’s just playing the game. Wait until the Obama team finally hires a good video company. Look, this next presidential... Read More »
