Do You Value Yourself & Your Business High Enough?

Do You Value Yourself & Your Business High Enough?

June 24th, 2008 // 1:44 pm @ Jim Kukral

Good question, eh? I’m willing to bet you suffer from what most people suffer from… devaluing yourself or your business. You know… charging too little, or not making your value known to customers and employers.

Admit it, it’s ok. Everyone does it. But the time to stop is now. You’re never going to get where you want if you continue to devalue your knowledge and experience.

So how do you determine your value as a consultant or employee or as a sales organization? Some people or companies have no idea how to price themselves, or when/if to discount. Today I talk with Duncan Macpherson from Pareto Systems, and co-author of “Breakthrough Business Development”.

We talk about value and negotiating your value. Good stuff the consultant who needs to know how to price or value their work and time.

I'm a recent fan of yours, i like your selling and maketing advice.
but i think you missed the point when Duncan Macpherson was talking about how to start a relationship, not to give a discount when you try to get the client, becuse they will always expect it. and what you said from Jon Spoelstra is not to screw the client because it will get back to you in the long run. Jim i enjoy your podcast you provide very valuble informaition.

I believe that the way the market is going you have to charge a little less. May its just me, but I have been getting plenty of people that use to spend money with me, start asking for discounts. What am I to do in situations like these.

  5. It's a tough call. I think it depends on your skill level and experience. I know this though. When you price low, people value you low.

It's all about the business plan. If you have a good business plan then you will get this value that you are talking about!

  7. So, do you suggest to hire more employees or fire them?
    Thanks,

It's sad but true. Many businesses undervalue themselves, especially small business or one-man shows that are just starting out. Before you ever get a business sign, put out your first business cards, or send out that first email… be sure you've evaluated your product or service closely enough to start out on the right foot.
