Dvorak Gets Why I Want To Switch To Mac

Everyone knows I’m counting down the days until I get my Macbook laptop. 158 left at the time of the blog entry. Dvorak sums it up for me in this paragraph. Bold emphasis below is mine.

I can see why the Mac is gaining market share, because the rationale for using one is simple. Do you want to deal with the agony of antivirus, firewall, antispyware, and other touchy software subsystems, many of which do not work well? Or do you want to boot Microsoft Word and write a document and be done with it?

That’s it. I want to boot, have it work and be done with it! It’s that simple.

My PC can’t do that for me anymore.

FWIW, I use my MacBoook primarily to run around and shoot Webcam videos in various places.

I capture and edit them with iMovie, and that program hangs up or closes without warning all the time on me.

I think lately I’m really frustrated because my pc laptop has such a bad popup spyware in it that I cannot remove it, no matter what I run. Seriously, nothing can get rid of it.

I think I’m going to have to do a complete wipe. Frustrating.

Plus, it takes like 10 minutes to shut the thing down. “End now” “End now”, etc… Argh. It’s hosed.

What are you using to block spyware, so I know not to use it? ;-)

I have McAfee Security Center and Windows Defender running, and I’ve never had a piece of junk I couldn’t remove.

My Mcaffee ran out of subscription for 24 hours, and in that short time I caught something called Virtuomundo. Mcaffee can’t clear it. Even windows defender can’t, but at least they identify it. Tried running about 3 other spyware removers, and none can find it.

How do I get rid of it?

This sounds like a case for Sheriff Wayne Porter.

Xblock couldn’t get it either. Sigh.

    Hey Jim,

I used to work with Macs when I was a graphics student, and yes…they’re fantastic, but since these days I have abandoned any notion of using a PC for more than 2 years, I can boot and write and be done with it too, all in good conscience…hehe :)

But about your virus…is it something remotely related to Vundo or Smitfraud? Oh well…the good guys at Safer-Networking.org may be able to help you out :)

Finally, I’d dump McAfee, Norton and the like…go for either Kaspersky/Zone Alarm…for firewalls and anti spyware…(hey, these actually work)!

What a hazard to navigate through the Web these days…sigh

Got something to say?
