Fire The Idiots In Your Life & Business

Years and years ago, oh I’d say about 20-years ago, I had an epiphany. I realized that life was too short to spend it with idiots and assholes, both personally and professionally. Fortunately for me I figured this out at an early age. However, I still know many people who don’t get this. They still continue to work with, and live with people in their lives that they shouldn’t.

This article from Bloomburg Business backs me up a bit. It’s called “The Three Types of People To Fire Immediately”.

The types of people they suggest firing are:

When confronted with any of the following three people—and you have found it impossible to change their ways, say goodbye. Read the entire article for more.

1. The Victims
“Can you believe what they want us to do now? And of course we have no time to do it. I don’t get paid enough for this. The boss is clueless.”

2. The Nonbelievers
“Why should we work so hard on this? Even if we come up with a good idea, the boss will probably kill it. If she doesn’t, the market will. I’ve seen this a hundred times before.”

3. The Know-It-Alls
“You people obviously don’t understand the business we are in. The regulations will not allow an idea like this, and our stakeholders won’t embrace it. Don’t even get me started on our IT infrastructure’s inability to support it. And then there is the problem of ….”

I will add my own one to the list, from experience.

4. The Asshole
The asshole is just an asshole who likes being an asshole. He/she enjoys it and gets pleasure from other people being aggravated by their antics. The asshole wakes up every morning and thinks about how they are going to effect other people with their asshole-iness and it gives them great pleasure.

My advice? Run, not walk, away from any of these types of people. Surround yourself with people who you like and who you enjoy and who are positive and upbeat and want to live life and be optimistic.

Business Around A Lifestyle

The world changed on 9/11 in so many different ways. Since that day, there has been a major shift happening in the way people think and live their lives. Sure, many people still chase the dollar as their ultimate goal. However, many more people have begun to realize that the world could, well, end tomorrow.

That's why people are choosing to pursue a business around a lifestyle, instead of a lifestyle controlled by their business. It makes sense, right? If the world was going to end tomorrow, would you still try to live your life in a way you never wanted to?

Take a look around you and you'll see that this shift to becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur is being adopted by more and more people every day. Some of those people are falling into it because they have been laid off from their jobs and are literally forced into it. Some of those people just figure out a way to make it happen because of the "end of the world" thinking mentioned above.

Love this, because it is too true! This goes for family members that fit into your life, that meet one of the four criteria (especially #4). It is a bit more difficult to cut them out of your life, but it is well advised!
