Show Notes:

Originally self-published because I wanted to have control, didn’t want rejection
Used netpub.net to self-publish. Bookmarket.com is a great resource too
Nonfiction sells more than fiction, it’s evergreen
Marketed book without money. I did everything on my own
Had no online marketing experience
Publishers want a guaranteed audience ready to buy. Identify the target niche and market to it
Message boards marketing. Got heavily involved
Used book cover artwork as your profile pic
Used signature in message boards to promote book and link to website
Never ever mention your book, just talk to people. Passive marketing
Used analytics from website to help sell to publisher and agent
Using an agent sped up the process of getting the deal
Made more money because of the book, not from the book
Started a book. Emailed best selling authors and asked for advice. Just sat down and wrote it

Once homeless and living in his car, award-winning novelist Jeff Rivera writes passionate stories of those often forgotten and neglected by society. He believes even in the eyes of a gang member, even beneath the soiled clothes of a bag lady or behind the tears of a lonely kid in the back of the class, there lies a common thread that links us all, the universal human story. He has made it his personal mission to help change the way the world thinks in a positive way through his stories. Mr. Rivera currently lives in Miami, Florida. Adopted by his Filipino stepfather when he was seven years old, his ethnic background is Black American and Native American.

Business Around A Lifestyle

The world changed on 9/11 in so many different ways. Since that day, there has been a major shift happening in the way people think and live their lives. Sure, many people still chase the dollar as their ultimate goal. However, many more people have begun to realize that the world could, well, end tomorrow.

That's why people are choosing to pursue a business around a lifestyle, instead of a lifestyle controlled by their business. It makes sense, right? If the world was going to end tomorrow, would you still try to live your life in a way you never wanted to?

Take a look around you and you'll see that this shift to becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur is being adopted by more and more people every day. Some of those people are falling into it because they have been laid off from their jobs and are literally forced into it. Some of those people just figure out a way to make it happen because of the "end of the world" thinking mentioned above.

It's pretty amazing what a person can accomplish when they put their mind to it and think it through. It's even better when they share information to help others to do the same thing. Thank you for sharing.
