I Use Technorati For One Thing Only: Brand Tracking

Today Technorati “relaunched” with a bunch of new stuff I guess. Like Allen, I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that stuff is and what problems it solves for me.

It seems they tried really hard today to explain what they’re doing, but they broke the cardinal rule of marketing. Which is…

Don’t tell me what you do, tell me how what you do solves problems for me.

Here’s how I use Technorati.

I log in and type my brand name and search for people mentioning my brand.

That’s it.

Am I missing something? Is there something else you can really do with it?

What problem does it solve for me?

And what’s with them ignoring video?

Business Around A Lifestyle

The world changed on 9/11 in so many different ways. Since that day, there has been a major shift happening in the way people think and live their lives. Sure, many people still chase the dollar as their ultimate goal. However, many more people have begun to realize that the world could, well, end tomorrow.

That's why people are choosing to pursue a business around a lifestyle, instead of a lifestyle controlled by their business. It makes sense, right? If the world was going to end tomorrow, would you still try to live your life in a way you never wanted to?

Take a look around you and you'll see that this shift to becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur is being adopted by more and more people every day. Some of those people are falling into it because they have been laid off from their jobs and are literally forced into it. Some of those people just figure out a way to make it happen because of the "end of the world" thinking mentioned above.

I feel the same way. Its a good way to track who has been linking to you. As you know, the latest links to your blog used to be shown in your wordpress panel. I dont know if wordpress made a deal with google and I do like checking google blog search for links etc too however WordPress should have kept the links from technorati as well.

I dont use technorati for aynthing else. If im searching for something specific I much prefer using stumbleupon :)
