I’m what you would call a “burst” worker. Instead of planning out a bunch of ideas and scheduling them to be done on certain dates and in certain order, I instead aggregate a bunch of thoughts over time, then when I feel ready, I quickly push all of them into production and get them done as fast as possible with tweaking to come after.
I’m an Internet geek marketer with information overload.

Here’s an example of what I mean.
- Today I cranked out about 4 blog posts I’ve been meaning to write
- Then I launched a new blog directory for ScratchBack users
- Then I designed and uploaded a bunch of new holiday themed widgets for Scratchback
- I also produced two Flip videos
All in about 8-hours or so of working time. Tomorrow I may do nothing except catch up on RSS feeds and check email. This is how I work.
Now I know this is probably not the most productive way to get things done. A smart person probably plans out their tasks and goals and sets dates for them. I can understand how that can be much more productive.
How do you “get stuff done”? I’m interested to hear how other people accomplish their tasks. Maybe you’ll give everyone a tip we can all use. I’m open to change. :)

I work in similar way. That’s why I started make posts drafts with time stamp so I can write 4 posts one day and nothing next 3 days and posts will be published one by one.
glad to hear there is someone else that works like i do out there.
I usually work the same way though I try not to. I would love to be able to put the same amount of work in week in week out but some weeks Im busy or lazy and do 10-15 hours and the next I do 50.
I usually arrange my work around my lifestyle – ie. nights out, holidays, social life. :)
I feel that if someone’s work is the least bit creative, they will work when they get the inspiration or are struck by an idea that they feel they have to give fruition to. I think it is because of this that creative people work in bursts; perhaps output is not very even and constant, but maybe that is a side effect of being original and creative?
Sure, I'll go along with that word, Jim.
To the contrary, Jim, the smartest, most productive people I know work around and with their natural rhythms, so as to attain peak production (as they define that), in a way that feels comfortable and natural for them. There’s a great book about this, entitled “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience.” I’d recommend it to anyone. But it sounds like you’re nicely in flow.
So what you’re saying John is that I’m a genius!?? :0
