I’ve been blogging since 2001. I’ve written thousands of blog entries across tons of blogs. Lately I’m wondering if it’s time to stop? I’ve got Twitter and Facebook and my private email lists with my close friends.
Blogging for me was always about self-expression. It was/is my outlet. Lately, however, I’m questioning if I need that outlet anymore because I have so many other outlets?
Or maybe it’s just time to shut the written word down and go to a video blog format. A huge commitment, yes, but hmmm…
Didn’t you ever just feel like it was time to switch gears and dive in head first and push yourself? Everything I’m doing lately revolves around video. Seems like a natural progression.

Jim, whatever your choice, just remember that the technology is here to serve you. You are not here to serve the technology. If you feel that video is the way to go, then I would embrace it. Your fans will still follow you and while you may lose a few who prefer the written word, I think you will gain more because you will genuinely enjoy the new medium and that that will come through in your segments.
Come on, Jim… what about your 140 character point a few weeks back?
Hey Jim,
I started blogging at around the same time. I ended up “burning out” in 2004 or so. I still blog, but much less frequently and consistently. Moreover, I never reached the level of your posts in terms of quality, intelligence etc. Having just found your blog recently, I would be disappointed if you switched to video blogging, because the chances are I’m not going to look at ‘em.(personal choice, and one of the “few who prefer the written word” per the previous commenter)
At the same time, if video is where your heart/energy is at, shouldn’t that be what you do?
@Jack, You’re right. I’m still thinking about it.
@rob, I’ve burned out on blogging many times. This blog you see now was in many, many forms since 2001, off an on. Thanks for the compliments. If I do do video, I’d try to make them entertaining and informative.
Don’t hang up the gloves just yet. Post when you are really driven to, not just when you haven’t done so and you feel obligated to. The written word gives you a chance to express yourself in a way that you won’t be able to on video. Maybe hire a contributor or two to write articles to keep the content on the site flowing.
It’s feb. 2008 … you’re still here Jim … what happened ?
Read the whole post Lex. I said I think I might go to video only. I just did :)
I did read the whole post actually … I guess I just didn’t get it ;)
Anyways…
