Just Kill The PayPerPost Brand & Focus On SocialSpark

Make money teaching a class at Prfessor.com

Ted, what’s the story? PPP is dead. Google killed it. The way I see it, you have two choices.

1. Kill the brand and focus on your new SocialSpark product that enforces disclosure and nofollow. This to me is a winning idea with no flaws.

or

2. Fight Google.

Which one sounds easier? You may say to yourself, “Well, #2 sounds like it would bring my company lots of free publicity, plus it’s the right thing to do.” But I’m here to tell you that I don’t think “fighting Google” is either smart, or worth the time or effort.

Let’s face it. The PPP model has been stricken down by the Google Gods.

This is Google’s Internet… we just live in it.

We play by their rules or don’t play at all, even if their rules are built for them alone. Seems defeatist, yes, but it also seems prudent when it comes to running a long-term profitable business?

Maybe my opinion would change of the situation if they came after one of my companies/brands. So I have considered that, yes. And yes, I’d probably get very angry with them too.

I’m just saying… I’m not sure I’d fight at this point. But then again, you’re not me. Good luck in whatever you do. I know one thing, you’ll get some good publicity out of the whole situation. But will that publicity help, or hurt? That’s the question.

Mathew offers a more balanced opinion, as usual.

  • Hi Jim

The problem is I have been given a penalty for writing posts that conform to what will be possible with SocialSpark.

Nofollow is only necessary with SocialSpark for advertiser specified links, and mine are editorial, just like Techcrunch class their post with 8 links and absolutely no content.

That post on Techcrunch is really blatant.
  • yea...Google's going to be big no matter what happens and no matter how many of us leave the services it provides.

  • I think you are probably right. i think they might be forced to kill off the payperpost brand. My guess is that they will do it however they need to handle it in the right way - ie. so that payperpost users migrate to their new network.

I'm eager to get a look at socialspark - from the screenshots etc you've posted it looks like an interesting concept.

I'm curious to know what percent of sales were influenced by SEO and how that will impact SocialSpark.
  • I agree that payperpost is dead. A part of me completely agrees with Google penalizing paying for links.

Google created this artificial market where people were paying inflated prices just to increase their pagerank. That never made much sense to me.

Don't get me wrong. I am disappointed that my blogging career started too late to profit from it, but I can't be mad at Google for ending the madness.
  • So how can you be so sure that Google won't penalize SocialSpark's blogs?

Google wouldn't penalize socialspark users/advertisers because the links are all nofollow so search engines like google won't be giving weight/pagerank to those links. socialspark also requires you to have a disclosure on the individual post indicating that it is sponsored.

I had started using ppp then switched to socialspark.. i only posted one article for ppp but my pagerank has dropped 2pts in the last 6 months.. I stopped using ppp thinking it may have contributed.
