Leave The Online “Gurus” Alone!

Make money teaching a class at Prfessor.com

Look, not all online “gurus” are scammers. Many will have you believe that they are, but let me tell you from 10+ years in this space… not all of them are out to steal your money by selling you junk. The big issue is determining which ones are legit and which ones are not. It’s harder than it seems. Hence, the confusion we all have.

How do I know? Well, I’ve seen them all, and I’ve met with and become friends with many of them, as well as looked at their products. So I have inside information, which is the point of this video. Don’t just write all “gurus” off as thieves.

Another point… don’t buy info products and think they “just work” and make you millions by pressing a button. That’s why, I believe, that most people call these things scams… because they get them and realize that it’s still hard work. In other words, don’t be stupid.

  • oh yeah, some of the best are Joel Comm, Jeff Walker, Don Crowther, Andy Jenkins, Brad Fallon, I just took Don Crowther's class for well over $1000 and got that value out x10 hell yeah!
  • It's common sense really - if someone has been around for 10+ years online, generally it's because that someone has hit on something that works and works well. You can trace back their successes over the years via Archive.org and the like.

Sing one's own song, I always say....and give yourself permission to be successful.

  • What is an online "guru" anyways? Always wondered what it took to get that status. Nice post Jim.

  • Great point to make, Jim.

Saying that all online gurus are thieves is like saying that all lawyers are liars. I know there's at least lawyer who doesn't lie. :)

  • I bought a great product awhile back, and then i found its trashy looking sales page. If I would have found the massive sales page first, I probably never would have bought the product.

I think the problem lies in the sales pages that all look alike and it has really nothing to do with the marketer. If these people with huge sales pages don't want to be thought of as scam artists or gurus, they might want to think about redesigning their page. In my mind, and I'll probably never get rid of the bad taste in my mouth, and these pages will always represent that guy that tried to sell me a bunch of crappy information.
  • I agree, there are great info products out there, but many sales letters are misleading when the say "make $xxxxx in day, or weeks". Of course, they want to sell their product, so they don't emphasize on the quantity of work needed to be done in order to get those results, nor on the fact that nobody can guarantee the repeatability of these results.

Moreover, some of those gurus sell good stuff, but after you buy it, you get killed with hundreds of emails about their other products. And when that product was a software, you don't want to unsubscribe, because you might miss important updates.

  • Three things that say guru (and by guru I mean scammer) to me are:

    1. A 'lucrative' affiliate program.

    2. Endorsements from people with no apparent web footprint - no blog, no online-profile, etc.

    3. Whatever they are pushing is represented by an angled, 3-D box as if there is some "packaged" version someplace.

    4. There are serious inconsistencies between their lead sentence and the body of their pitch.

  • Wade, you can still if you wish. :)

Jason, for every person like you who hates those nasty sales letters, is 100 more other people who don't hate them. But I get your point.
  • Teenage love, Take it from me, these people really do make that much money. More even. You could say there are no secrets about being a doctor, since you could find everything you needed to know about it online or in medical books... yet, how hard would that be? People buy these products to be guided by a "guru" who's already got it figured out.
  • I think a lot of people think that some e-books are scams because they buy them and then realize that they already know all that information and they weren't taught anything new at all. That would be why a person should heavily research an e-book before buying.
