I
don't have a problem with Jakob Nielsen. On the contrary, I
think he's rightfully the King
of Usability and should be applauded for his work and
influence in the industry.
So
why do I feel the need to second guess him? Only Freud knows...
Actually, I do know. It's easy to take cheap shots at the leader
of the pack.
The
following is the history of Jakob Nielsen and myself. Boy, is this
cheap and blatant self promotion on my part or what?
-
Early
2003 - I wrote an article for Builder.com entitled 'Is
Flash More Usable Than It Was In 2000'
The piece examines the logic and reasons behind Jakob's 2000
review of Flash and its usability. He was right, but his view
2 years later badly needed to be updated. I just did it for
him!
-
Early
2004 - I wrote another piece for MarketingProfs.com focusing
on Jakob's website entitled 'Being
Jakob Nielsen'. Heh, I though it was clever. I got good
comments from it. A few negatives too.
-
Two
days after the piece ran, I got an email from Jakob Nielsen
himself. Here it is:

- I suppose that will be it until I find some other way to use his fame for my personal gain :) I love ya' Jakob. It's all in good fun.
