New Blog Design

Make money teaching a class at Prfessor.com

I’m shaking things up here at JimKukral.com. Since 2001, this blog on this domain has changed designs probably 50 times. Each design to match my mood or goals of the moment.

Today, I’m going all legit, putting up a professional design that I really like, for the moment. That’s the problem with being a former designer…

This design you’re seeing now (Nov 2007), is also perfect to launch my new daily web show that is coming next week. More details will be leaked after I consume massive amounts of turkey and pie.

For now, what do you think of the design? Does it make you more likely, or less likely to visit my blog and subscribe to my rss feed?

  • I think the size of the fonts etc are better now. The one thing I would do is remove the preview from the single.php file - ie. at the moment you have a few sentences previewing the post which is below it :)
  • Im not too sure about the design. I agree with Kevin in terms of the fonts etc. they are a lot better now. I think the design is more professional, but it wont help your blog in the long run, because it just doesnt stand out as much, plus you need to click thru just to see the articles.

Im also not too sure how your videos will link it, because i know you do a great deal of videos.
  • How's that Kevin?

Steven, I'm a believer that strong content is what makes your blog stand out, not design. But I hear what you're saying. I'm going to be releasing some daily video content next week that I think will fit nicely into this design. In other words... I have a plan :)
  • I like it. I'd consider a Best of type of widget in the sidebar but try not to get overly cluttered. There's not a whole lot of functionality to drive readers deeper. That would be the one thing that I think is missing.
  • yeah thats a lot better Jim.

Overall I like the design...though maybe I'm biased because I use a Brian Gardner theme too. The comment area is a lot friendlier too :)
  • @aaron, any suggestions for getting more deep traffic reading?

@Kevin, yeah, Brian Gardner is a wonderful designer.
  • Wow, it's a lot different. I like it. The content and comments are definitely easy to read. I think the white background of the content area with the dark background of the rest of the page draws some focus to the content and makes it easier to read.
  • Wow, Jim, love the new design. And I love (even more) how you stick to the notion that strong content is the most important factor. Keep up the great work, pal.
  • i dont know what it looked like before, but this design is clean and it works. One thing i dont like is the title with your domain in italics.
