Online Marketing Lesson: Lists Are Powerful Tools

Check out the Power 150 Top Marketing Blogs. I recently asked to be added to this list and was pleased to see that I was added in at #140. Just like my high school graduation… 10 from the bottom. :)

The Power 150 is a global ranking of the top English-language marketing blogs. Originally launched in January 2007 as a USA-based ranking, the Power 150 expanded worldwide to include all English-language blogs after TechBrew provided the list’s automation in March 2007. To calculate each blogâ€™s final ranking in the Power 150, a very simple, multimetric algorithm was used. Final ranking is based on the sum of four unique and mostly objective sources:

Will I go up? Will I go down? It updates automatically based on a bunch of factors. I don’t know, and I’m not sure it really matters. However…

There’s an online success lesson learned here. (You knew I was going to preach didn’t you?)

People love lists. They’re fun to read and most importantly, they really work to get vain bloggers and marketers like me sucked into their vortex.

Business Around A Lifestyle

The world changed on 9/11 in so many different ways. Since that day, there has been a major shift happening in the way people think and live their lives. Sure, many people still chase the dollar as their ultimate goal. However, many more people have begun to realize that the world could, well, end tomorrow.

That's why people are choosing to pursue a business around a lifestyle, instead of a lifestyle controlled by their business. It makes sense, right? If the world was going to end tomorrow, would you still try to live your life in a way you never wanted to?

Take a look around you and you'll see that this shift to becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur is being adopted by more and more people every day. Some of those people are falling into it because they have been laid off from their jobs and are literally forced into it. Some of those people just figure out a way to make it happen because of the "end of the world" thinking mentioned above.
