Online Video Ads Mean Big Bucks For You

Make money teaching a class at Prfessor.com

As Beet.tv is reporting, YouTube overlay ads are beginning to appear all over the place. Want to see it in action? Try this video from Tim Carter. You’ll notice the little yellow bar in the player… that shows where the ad is going to play (if there is one, you may have to refresh as the ads don’t load every time).

Here’s a screen grab of an ad on that video.

Relevant ad for some kind of DIY network.

So why is this important to you?

If you’re not making videos yet, you should be. This is just another reason for you to get started. High-quality videos uploaded to a YouTube channel you create are going to be chosen by advertisers.

Video is wide-open. It’s like Google 5-years ago. Don’t believe me? Go to YouTube and search for any phrase, and do the same search in Google. I’ll do it for you.

I just searched for “debt”. That’s a HUGELY competitive term, right?

On YouTube, there are 5800 results for videos marked with “debt” in tags, titles and description. In Google, there are 185 MILLION results.

Which one do you think is going to be easier to climb to the top of?

A high-quality, well tagged video can get onto the first page, and sometimes the top listing on YouTube in 24-hours or less. I do it every week, for highly competitive search terms. Nobody else is doing it yet… nobody.

I’m telling you now… you’re either going to do it today, or wait until everyone else does it first, than play catch up… again. Get your video camera today and start making videos.

I can't do videos. I'm too ugly. Plus I have this wart here...
  • @Lincoln, don't do videos at your own peril. I'm telling you, ugly or not! :0
  • Jim,
I have been watching your posts concerning videos and know that I must do this, next.
Do you have any real cost effective ways for one to post them?
That is the part that seems to be too variable.
    Thanx,
    Joel Libava
  • Joel...

    http://www.buytheflip.com. :)

    Posting is free, use Tubemogul.com.
  • Thanx, Jim
But...can I shoot some vids, and post them on MY BLOG for free, also with that service, or is there another one for that?
    Thanx,
    Joel
  • Yes, you take video, and you can even use the software that comes with the Flip to upload to YouTube... free. Then just embed video code in your blog, wherever :)
  • Thanx! Now I feel kinda dumb, though. Doesn't the video have to be hosted by somewhere, someone. before it will play on my Typepad blog?
    Joel
  • Joel... The video is hosted at YouTube, for free :) Use Tubemogul.com to upload to them and a bunch of other free ones all at once!
  • Cool.Thanx, my friend.

    Mark Cuban intro huh?
    You bad...You bad....
  • ok, ok.. i'm getting that flip camera thing because I'm drinking your kool-aid Jim.

What few YouTube videos I have done are all #1 for some pretty good search phrases that are quite competitive in natural G search. Got my wheels turning...

  • We have a converter!!! Congrats Jeff, you won't be sorry.

Make sure you buy it at www.buytheflip.com? :) Best price out there right now, and if you use Google checkout you get another $10 off.
  • I gotta give it to ya Jim, marketing the FLIP like that :)

As for video ads, I agree with you that people should start doing this, but it actually takes a lot more time and skills. My blog wants the video post feature, but it's just too time consuming...

If I ever do get to video blogging, I may do it all in house. I don't like the idea of spreading my content on third party sites where they could arbitrarily take your video content offline without warning.

That said, Vlog It! from Adobe is hands down the best software I've seen to use for video blogging. It's only $29 too. :-D

  • Never seen that one Lincoln, good find. What's so great about it?

I think the best is the teleprompter and the ability to digitally replace the background with any image you want (you need a one color backdrop though). Really takes the guesswork out of adding jazz to make your videos look more professional looking.
  • IMO the problem is that in YouTube people dont search terms like debt or loan or something like that...
There are used so much easier terms like funny, accident, laught, baby etc... and each of them has many results already...
