Please Don’t Start A Making Money Online Blog

The podcast recording below says it all really. Look, the “making money online” blog space is really crowded, and it’s really hard to “make money” in that space, and besides, there’s so many other niches you could be going after that you’d probably make “much more money” at.

Don’t make a “make money online” blog. Just don’t. You’ll be more successful if you move that energy somewhere else. Besides… aren’t we all just a bit sick and tired of these types of blogs? I am.

Truth is this market place is saturated and we do not need any more, if you are doing it for adsense money each click will be worth pennies, but if you exploit an underrepresented niche your site is more likely to succedd

I thought about this and, well, I am afraid too that there is just not enough space for make money online bloggers anymore.. Or is there. I mean, every day, somebody will turn 18 and is allowed to go to a bar.. So, everyday, there will be more people looking to make money online.. Automatically making the market larger. Or, am I not correct with that statement?

I'm with you. I find these blog repulsivly commercial and trashy.

I've not come across many of these make money online blogs but how can western people make money online when $10 = a sandwhich and drink to them and $5 = a weeks worth of work to those people in poorer countries.

With the internet being an even marketplace for everyone to compete, these factors play an important role.

I like seeing all the Make Money Online Blogs. I think there are still plenty of money flowing in this business.

Everyone seems to agree, yet, I see a brand new making money online blog now almost every day?

True. It doesn't always work and all the hard work will only go to waste. =\

I think that there are two reasons why there are so many Make Money Online blogs. The first reason is that what we are interested in. If you are trying to make money online, it almost becomes an obsession. People turn start doing a make money blog because that is what they are in to.

The second reason is that the A listers in the make money online crowd don't give sufficient examples of how to make money using a niche outside the make money space. We all see how the successful make money bloggers pimp new affiliate programs, ebooks and software tools, but we never actually learn how to monetize other niches. There is a real need for this type of information. The problem is that people don't want to show their niches. But, is it really going to affect you that much to open up a little bit more? I don't think so.

    Just my thoughts,
    Fred

Great advice, too bad not that many people want to hear your particular message. Because as you say, they see what John Chow is doing and all they think about is the money.

I admit, I was once like the rest of them too! But I got tired of the herd mentality and decided to go back to my personal blog and just write about stuff that makes me happy.

Yeah you right, its crazy how everybody is trying to do the same thing and aren't going anywhere. Good thing mine is different.

Really good analysis of the make money online niche Jim. It's saturated right now and the big bloggers are moving on to other things. Shoemoney is focusing on growing a big MMA website, 45n5 took off the ads and just gives great content for branding, John Chow just uses his blog for brand and sell direct ads now. The point is the time to get into this niche was two years ago when these guys were just starting to make money. Now they use the traffic to brand and sell direct. Plus, did you ever notice a kind of "icky" feeling from some of them, like a used car salesman feeling? Not all of them, but a few. I'm not sure if it's the niche that does that or the business model, but glad to see it go in a different direction.

Just for the record... That guy is not me. :)

I think most of us should not write about making money online until they actually make money online. Isn't that how these big guys started their blogs?

But then again just because some one says you should not start making videos because 1938media.com already does a better job is not right.

Jim, the good point that you have made is that most of the bloggers that write about "making money online" blogs actually make the most of their income from other websites.

I think the problem is in people starting "MMO" blogs who are making little to no money online in the first place. I think other bloggers who are doing well and offer proof along with accusation, would be welcomed.

But, 95% of the MMO blogs out there are run by people who make little money online. So, for those in that crowd I totally agree!
