Twitter Day 1: I’m A Ghost In The Machine?

twitterlogo.jpgI’m about 24-hours into my first experience into Twitter. Here are my first impressions.

1. I was expecting more noise. Frankly, the noise from my 15 or so friends I have now is way less than my normal day to day IM chatter. I was thinking it was going to be 4 times more noise, I got less. Misconception.

2. Twitter is like talking to yourself in a room and hoping everyone else is listening. It’s like you’re a ghost in someone else’s room listening to them talk to themselves. Does that make sense? It’s weird. I can’t explain it.

3. Twitteroo is responsible for crashing my PC laptop, (HARD, take battery out reboots), twice so far since installed. Grrr.

4. The IM client on Twitter isn’t working still. Sam says it’s supposed to be up this weekend. I want to try that, maybe that will improve my experience.

5. My first hours in Twitter were about as confusing as my first hours in Myspace. I suppose that’s a good thing?

Here’s a video of Sam and Macy explaining Twitter.

Business Around A Lifestyle

The world changed on 9/11 in so many different ways. Since that day, there has been a major shift happening in the way people think and live their lives. Sure, many people still chase the dollar as their ultimate goal. However, many more people have begun to realize that the world could, well, end tomorrow.

That's why people are choosing to pursue a business around a lifestyle, instead of a lifestyle controlled by their business. It makes sense, right? If the world was going to end tomorrow, would you still try to live your life in a way you never wanted to?

Take a look around you and you'll see that this shift to becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur is being adopted by more and more people every day. Some of those people are falling into it because they have been laid off from their jobs and are literally forced into it. Some of those people just figure out a way to make it happen because of the "end of the world" thinking mentioned above.

I was a little dissatified with Twitteroo as well. Their Core Class for .NET works well though and I am writing my own client for Twitter around it.

“Twitteroo is responsible for crashing my PC laptop, (HARD, take battery out reboots)”

The other alternative is to hold your power button for 20secs and the power should cut.

I’ve known laptop users who’ve fried their machines in mishaps while removing their batteries.

Twitter looks like a good way to direct traffic to targeted posts if you use it effectively. Else it could be another time trap.
