Use Emotion & Tell A Story For Viral Success

Use Emotion & Tell A Story For Viral Success

June 30th, 2009 // 2:19 pm @ Jim Kukral

You’re not going to find a better example of a viral type video built specifically to drive an action than this one.

Go watch this now and come back.

Notice how smart this was done? A powerful, emotional story, told without voice, in music and images.

Also notice how smart the call to actions are at the end of the video? They don’t interrupt. They are relevant. They help you easily share it.

This video will go viral because it’s that good. And frankly, this is something you could make over at www.Animoto.com for free.

Use emotions and tell stories.

What an excellent story …. the images and music were intense and compelling and as you mentioned the calls to action not intrusive.
Thanks for that … inspired me in many ways.

Everyone's talking about funny being THE viral thing, it's good to remember that funny is just another emotion. This clearly shows how to go viral in another very potent way.

But I have to disagree wth you on your last phrase. Even though it looks easy to do (and god knows animoto does an excellent job) it seems that a lot, and I do mean a lot, of work went into producing this video. The music is a perfect fit, as are the pictures. So it seems to me that you need to know exactly what you're doing when you reproduce something like this video.
Having said that, thanks for this post. I'm sure a lot of people will greatly benefit from it.

To add to what Gil says – its an excellent video but i do agree that to get something of this quaility so the story synchs with the music and validity of the message is not something just anyone could put together – certainly beyond my capability.

@Peter Davies you're absolutely write. How do newbies get this kind of storytelling talent? I usually just go with personal experiences… or maybe just read lots of books to fill out the gaps. A good story is, after all universal.
