Trying out a new format here on the Daily Flip. Today’s video is about 15 minutes in length, and has no script. It’s just me free flowing thoughts about all kinds of things related to me and the world in which I work in. You can find a summary of those thoughts and show mentions below the video. Enjoy, and please let me know what you think? Watchable? Hate it? Love it? Want to see more or less of something?

    Hey Jim.

Your old way was scripted, which is fine, I guess, but it seemed scripted. Not that you were trying to hide that. It also had the Ze Frank style choppy segments. Those are ok for me, Dawg, just ok. (sorry, channeling Randy Jackson)

I like the new format. It seems much more genuine. Doesn’t necessarily have to be really long. The free-form is better.

Watching all you guys do the video and podcasts is interesting. You’re really improving. Good stuff.

  2. Jim Kukral on March 12th, 2008

Hey Scott, yeah, my old way was completely scripted. Glad you like the new format. I have another one that is only about 10 minutes, this one was a bit too long. First one, dawg. :)

    Thanks!

  3. James - DigitalKeyToInfo on March 12th, 2008

The format is ok nothing wrong with it. Nothing wrong with the old one either.
I guess one of the things I have liked best about your videos is that they were always short and to the point. Knowing it would be short, I’ve always had time to watch and learn something. A lot of make money online videos are just someone rambling way too long and I usually stop paying attention after a bit anyway. Probably just me.
Still, whatever format you use, I be back to watch when I can. Great stuff!

Good to know James. I’m exploring with the format. The next “long form” video I did is about 10 minutes and a bit more formatted, but still unscripted.

Jim, I’ve only been following your blog for a couple of weeks. I do like the new format you are using. You seem more personal and “real” instead of a news broadcast or infomercial type of video. I say stick with it! Just make some notes on the points you want to hit and talk.

I love the idea of your mixing it up, Jim - because, I really like both formats. I enjoyed this one today, very much! With the short formats, like James said, they are short and sweet and we still get our nuggets. With the long one, we get to listen to you ramble and as we follow you on your mental path, we see your ‘lightbulb’ go off and you give us multiple nuggets - kind of like a voyeuristic brainstorming - since we’re not helping out! So both ways rock!

It was interesting that you brought up the lighting, because, I had recently noticed that light of yours in the corner and had meant to ask you about it. I’d love to get a better look at it, and know where you bought it, too.

I would love to win a Flip camera! Most definitely!

Hey Digital Flip Camera people - send Jim some cameras to give out to his awesome readers - please! We’ll love you forever for it! And Jim will make you a website about it, on which we will all profess our love for the technological wonder that is The Flip!

I really enjoy hearing your version of online marketing and i appreciate that it’s a little bit different, or approached from a bit of a different direction. I’ve been listening to the ‘gurus’ for years, and I do learn a lot from them, but, I really like your view of things. I’ve been listening to (reading) your stuff since I took an opp for Creamaid some time ago on AwesomeMillion.com (I’ve made three or four of those things!) and I’m so glad that I found you! I’ve learned a lot from you!

I like the short and long ones.

do what you enjoy doing, we’ll keep watching ;)

  8. Jim Kukral on March 12th, 2008

John, thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it.

  9. Jim Kukral on March 12th, 2008

Lisa, thanks. That lamp in the corner behind me is a light bought at Ikea about 10 years ago. I think they still have them.

I’m glad I’m able to help or inspire you, that’s my goal!

  10. Jim Kukral on March 12th, 2008

Mark (45n5), thanks. Like I said, I’m trying to do what viewers want as well. It’s not just about me. :)

    Hey Jim,

This is the first time I listen to you. I think you did a great job at winging it. I like the fact that you’re too the point, and you’re not afraid to say “I ran out of things to say.” Thank you for that because some people just ramble! I am going to check out some of your scripted videos to see the difference. I will be listening again in the future. Great job.

  12. Jim Kukral on March 13th, 2008

    Hi Steph,

    Thanks! I’m trying my best!

  13. Mike1115 on March 13th, 2008

No! Don’t make Jim crush the paper cup! Please Pure Digital, give Jim more Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorders so he can arm us with the power of video!

I’d go with this format once a week to change things up, or maybe have different segments like watcher email questions, or video questions answered.
