We are building a social networking and video sharing site for free and paid members. Paid members get to view more videos and contact other members, based on plan level. Site, http://www.weezoo.com, goes live in January 2008 and included social/business network, dating, jobs, classifieds, and videos.
Here is where I think you and your associates can make money. We provide a certain amount of movies free per month, with option to view additional ones for a premium. Customers preview trailers and decide to view (pay per view if over limit).
Please let me know how we can make this work for both of us. We do not hav mark Cuban's budget, of course, but we are creative.
Best of luck.

What a great idea.

It does not surprise me that the "studio guys" would back off. The truth scares some executive types and not all movies are worth seeing and many simply are bad. Giving up control of a potential investment to a community of bloggers is probably very scary to those blue suits who write the checks. Sure, good viral buzz is bliss, bad viral buzz is hell. Who wants to own a piece of viral hell?

Like I said, some movies are bad, very bad, most in my opinion. It would be very hard to sell a project to investors with the fear of owning a bad movie with a legion of bloggers to spread the word.

Better luck next time.

Jim, Your decision was most likely the right one in hindsight..Just because Mr.Cuban is $$$$ loaded:
1. Does not mean you have to do things "his" way.
2. Nor Assume that it is a win win, because of his circle of influence
3. Work for FREE, when a potential partner does have the resources

Geez... like the budget is really all that tight for this guy. I guess he has to save his pennies to try to buy the Cubbies or something.
