10 Tips for 2012

I never have enough time to write out a super-long, super inspiring end of year post. Hey, I’m writing books, not blogs these days. (Yes, I know I’m writing a blog now, you know what I meant.)

But… I do have a short list of things to tell you before 2011 ends.

If you want to be successful in 2012… you must:

1. Trust your gut
2. Stay on course
3. Get past the hard part
4. Stop pitying yourself
5. Stop envying other’s success
6. Ship a ton of products/services/content
7. Do your own thing
8. Work on things that are fun
9. Read a lot of books
10. Decide on your life”style” plan before you decide on your business

Happy new year. Now get to work!

Too Much Influence Is A Bad Thing

There’s a severe disadvantage when you have too much influence. Sure, having smart and successful people around you is VERY important. However, when you begin to let their influence overwhelm your gut ideas and thoughts and shape your direction, you’re in trouble.

That’s where I was in 2010. I had a massive circle of smart, influential people guiding me. Believe me, they helped, a lot! But after a while I realized that I was letting them guide me too much. I saw their success and tried to emulate it, instead of sticking with my gut and moving forward on what I really wanted to do.

There’s the trap. You listen and watch successful people, and you want to be like them, so you try to do what they do… but when you do that, you never truly innovate, or create something that you believe is the right thing to do.

So I removed myself from that influential group. Simply because I needed to see what I could come up with without someone telling me if it’d work or not.

Lesson? Trust your gut. Go out there and take your belief and see if it works. Even when others might say, or show you, that another way works best. Failure is a good thing. Happy new year.

Fox Business News with Neil Cavuto

I had the pleasure of being a guest on the Neil Cavuto show on Fox Business News yesterday. You can watch the clip below. I talk about how I got on the show below.

So how did I get on this show?

Step 1: Have a good website (your platform). No-brainer, right? You have to have a professional looking site, assuming you’re in a professional business. My website features videos of me speaking and testimonials from clients and media I’ve been mentioned in.

Step 2: Create content in other places. I got this invite because a show producer found my guest post article on Self-Growth.com that I did over a year ago. He then followed my byline link to my site (see step 1) and watched some of my other videos, saw my books, calculated in his head whether I was qualified to be a good guest or not, then contacted me.

Step 3: When a person from the media contacts you, drop EVERYTHING and call them back. I’m not kidding. Here’s what they are doing. They have a deadline. In my case it was for that night’s show. So after he contacted me and left a message, he continued to search for another guest. Guess what? If he found and booked another one before I called back, I’m out. It’s that simple. You MUST get back to them as soon as possible.

I’ve actually lost things like this before because of bad timing. One time I had just gotten on a plane and didn’t get the email until 5 hours later. I lost that one, even though I called back immediately from the airplane. I lost another one because I had shut my phone off during a business meeting. You win some, you lose some.

Review: Become a Franchise Owner

My friend, and fellow Clevelander, Joel Libava, aka the Franchise King, has just released his first book entitled, Become a Franchise Owner, The start-up guide to lowering risk, making money, and owning what you do.

As Joel says, “Owning a franchise isn’t for everyone; in fact, it’s really not for most people. But if it is for you, this book can guide you in starting your own successful franchise business.”

Bottom line, if you EVER thought about purchasing your own franchise, you must read Joel’s book. Joel will give you tips on how to locate information about franchises, current industry trends, interviews with franchisors, and hot franchise opportunities. Plus:

The book offers a self-evaluation to discover if you are “franchise material”. It also describes how to choose the right franchise for your specific situation. And lists the 40 crucial questions to ask current franchise owners when evaluating a franchise.

In other words, you need this book if you’re even sniffing the idea of being a franchise owner. It will be the best money you ever spend.

How To Crowdfund Your Next Book

You don’t need an agent or a publisher to make your new book a success! You can use the power of the crowd to pre-fund your book and create your own virtual signing bonus. That’s what I did. I raised over $30k in 30-days for my new book series. Want to know how to do it? That’s what this book is all about.

Note: If you order a copy during the month of November, 2011, I’ll give you a free copy of my How To Catch Happy book in audio form. Just send me the purchase receipt at jim at jimkukral dotcom.

I know what struggles you have as an aspiring author. One of the biggest ones is book marketing, and selling books. I’ve written this book to help give you an easy way to solve those problems. In this book I take you step-by-step through how I did it myself, and show you how you can do it as well.

Who is this book for?

  • Anyone who has ever thought of writing a book or had the idea for a book, on any topic, in any niche
  • Anyone who doesn’t want to deal with the agents and big publishers and wants to have control to do it themselves
  • Anyone who wants to make money selling books before they even put pen to paper

You know there’s a better way to publish books. This is it. Take this simple, easy-to-follow strategy and make it a reality.

What’s in the book?

  • Step-by-step instructions on how to create your own crowdfunding or “pre-funding” campaign
  • Including details on how to set up your funding campaign and landing page
  • Advice on how to build your own platform you can use to drive awareness for your book
  • Tools and resources you can use to create your pre-funding campaign

It’s all here. I’ve taken my entire experience of pre-funding my own books to the tune of over $30k and put it into this book for you to read and follow and do yourself! The best part is, anyone can do this.

What others say

“Jim Kukral shows you the new rules to publishing in the digital age. Follow his advice and you’ll increase your chances for fame, influence and profits.” – Dan Janal, Founder of www.PressReleaseSender.com

“Having published the “traditional” way I read with delight how Jim Kukral and others are becoming their own publishers and distributors of their content. “30K in 30 Days” is stuffed with first-hand knowledge and advice on how to take control of your own content, publish it, and promote it in a simple, easy-to-follow process. As Jim says, you may not reach 30K in 30 days like he did, but the advice and guidance is itself worth 30K. Highly recommended.” – Troy Rutter

“In No Publisher Needed, Jim Kukral once again hits a home run. Through his own unique and proven experience, Jim explains how to “crowdfund” your book before a single page is written. That way, you can prove the viability of your idea, build a loyal fan base, and obtain initial funding to create a book that succeeds in the marketplace. I know I am excited to begin my next book project and to put Jim’s advice to use.” – Brian Newman

“After reading Jim’s 30k in 30 days, how could you not want to start thinking about writing your own book series? Jim has pushed the publisher and high fees of consulting and book printing to the side, and made a huge profit before even writing his first words for the book. This book is a glimpse into the future and how the world of publishing will truly change forever!” – Zac Johnson

Invitation: Let’s Write a Book Together

Are you an expert in something? Could be anything. You could be really skilled at how to cook vegan food, or maybe you’re a pro at how to install a blu-ray player, or you have figured out the best ways to take care of hermit crabs.

Whatever it is, YOU can write a book about it. And with my help, we can sell a ton of copies. Don’t diminish what you know a lot about. Every day now people are taking their knowledge and turning it into books that are being sold around the world.

So let’s hear your idea. I’m interested in working with you to publish a book together for profit. You write it, and I market it. Let’s do it.

No Retweets Needed, Just Be Remarkable

Chris Brogan proved the point I’m going to make here today. And the point is…

You don’t have to ask for retweets if you just make remarkable content.

Chris’s post did what it was supposed to do, most likely unintentionally knowing Chris (he doesn’t need retweets). Lisa Barone blogged about it. The Sales Lion followed. Plenty more. Heck, I’m doing it.

Tweets aren’t a marketing strategy. Sure, they can get you some traffic and a few more followers, but it’s not a marketing plan. Getting retweets is more about your ego than it is getting results.

Want more retweets? Do something remarkable. They’ll come without asking.

Self-Publishing: A Game Changer for the Publishing Industry

The folks over at Web Pro News did a nice interview with me entitled “Self-Publishing: A Game Changer for the Publishing Industry”.

In the video interview I talk about the future of publishing and self-publishing, and about how I raised over $20,000 for my new Business Around a Lifestyle books.

So, what’s your take? Am I right about the publishing industry? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Free Landing Page Templates

As an Internet Marketer, success for myself and for my clients depends a LOT on making high-quality landing pages. If you can create amazing landing pages you can convert at a much higher ratio, which means more sales and leads and profits!

Google loves great landing pages too. Just recently they announced that having good landing pages will mean even more. This article states that Google is changing their algorithm so that landing pages are even more important than ever.

As usual, in the ever evolving world of Search Engine Optimization, big changes are coming. Indeed, I just heard about new tweaks performed on the Google algorithm: This time it’s the Google AdWords, and the target is PPC landing pages! Landing pages quality is now an important ranking factor. Landing pages with most relevant content (in continuation to the ads) will from now on be considered as “quality” pages and hence rank higher.

Google AdWords Landing pages quality has been a ranking factor for Google for quite some time now, with factors being “relevant”, “irrelevant” or “utterly, terribly irrelevant”. With this new tweak to AdWords, Google scrutinizes, the “relevant”, the “more relevant” and the “most relevant” and ranks them accordingly.

With the quality websites climbing up the Google rankings, both site owners and web visitors shall benefit. Undoubtedly, Google’s endeavor has always been to enhance user experience. Their aim is to return users targeted search results.

The problem for many small business owners and non-Web people is that making great landing pages is hard. Well, not anymore. I’ve solved that problem.
