Quit Wasting Money On Press Releases, Buy Shankman’s Book

Seriously. Stop sending boring press releases that don’t work. It’s a huge waste of money. Grab a copy of Peter Shankman’s book for a few bucks and learn why, and how you’re going to save thousands.

Book title: Can We Do That?! Outrageous PR Stunts That Work–And Why Your Company Needs Them

Peter is the guy who brought us HelpaReporterOut.com (HARO), which is a great resource if you haven’t signed up yet, go now and do it. Back to the book…

This is a must-read book for you as a small business or brand that’s wants publicity, and you should. Spend the money and read this book and thank me later. And yes, those are my affiliate links in the video widget below. If you buy from clicking on them I get like 10 cents or something, lol.

Check out Pete’s blog too. Good stuff.

Dualing Flips with Kevin Savetz

This is a cool video for many reasons. 1. Because my friend Kevin Savetz is a great guy. 2. He’s got a great new site that you should all checkout that is very smart at ReviewRoundup.com, and 3. We did a dual Flip cam video. He pointed his at me, and I pointed mine at him. I flipped back and forth between the camera footage to create a neat interview effect.

Note: Kevin is a smart guy who builds sites like this that do very well. You could learn a thing or two from him by looking at some of his sites and how they’re built. Very smart.

Ukulele Lessons Part II – I Get Better

In part one of my self-imposed goal to learn how to play the ukulele, I showed you how clueless I was, and how out of tune I was. In today’s video, I show you how I figured out how to tune it, and how I learned a few chords.

This is a fun little instrument and I cannot wait to get better and begin writing some songs that I can perform on camera. Give me some time though. Have you ever tried to learn how to play an instrument from scratch? It’s hard. Any tips… send them over!

How Do You Tune A Ukulele?

Last week I talked about being inspired. So much so in fact that I bought a Ukulele because it sounded like fun to try and learn it, and because I could learn to play it on camera.

So here’s my first video of the Ukulele out of the box and not tuned. Pretty bad. I will be filming myself learning how to play it and you can watch the progress over time. Maybe I’ll even get good enough to start playing some songs.

Why do this? Because it’s fun and I like music and well, it will make for good videos. I hope. Also, sometimes the best videos are those of you just trying something. When was the last time you took a risk and just tried something?

Businesses Don’t Get Customer Evangelism

Brands still don’t get customer evangelists. I know this because I am one, for two different products, and I do not feel the love I should. The video below talks about those experiences and about why more brands need to get smart and being to embrace the customer evangelists they have.

Not to mention, companies should actively go out and seek these evangelists, then keep them. But they’re not doing that yet and I can’t figure out why? Maybe it’s still fear of losing control. I don’t get that.

If you’re a company that understands customer evangelists, let me know… I’d like to hear from you. I’ll tell you what. I’m “this” close to firing Pure Digital and finding another product to evangelize about.

Check out Jackie and Ben’s book on the topic.

Marketleverage Ad Network Does Marketing Right

If you read my blog you’ll know I think most ad networks marketing and sales teams suck! They do. Except this new ad network called Marketleverage.com. Note: I’m talking about their marketing prowess only; I have no idea if they are a worthy network to promote yet. (Note, if you’re going to sign up and find out, ask for Kyle McCall as your aff manager).

It’s funny how this little upstart company is EATING THE LUNCH of the big ad networks. I mean, they are seriously drinking their milkshakes. The marketing director at Marketleverage should be snapped up by one of these big giant ad companies right now and given free reign. I applaud this person, Dina Riccobono, for their innovation in the form of video, and beyond. Great work.

Here’s a little video I did talking about them and some video footage from them as well.

Watch Me Dance & Learn How To Make $50

Check out my fly dance moves in the video below. You just got served? Not quite. Anyway, the video is fun, and more importantly, the message is funner. Shawn and Missy own a site called WeViews.tv where they review products on video.

I did a few video reviews for them and they’re looking for more. Even better, they’re paying $50 for a review. That is one awesome deal. So look around your house for stuff you have and get reviewing for some cold hard cash! By the way, hats off to Slim-Sam Harrelson for the rap.

My Post-It Note Story, Attention = Success

The video below is all about getting attention to create opportunity, or revenue, or whatever it is that you’re looking to do. It’s a story about how I used a stack of yellow post-it notes to get offered a job. You should appreciate the middle part of this video where I post the notes all over my face for comedy effect.

The point is… you can get a lot in this world if you can get someone’s attention. Anyone can do it. You just have to not be afraid to try to do something unusual. There’s so many people doing the same thing out there; you have to stand out. Enjoy this video and I hope it inspires you to try to do something different to get what you want. Otherwise… you’re just going to be lumped in with everyone else, and that’s usually not a good thing.

Here’s the text version of this post-it note story I wrote about in 2007 here on this blog.

Does Your Brand Have A Jingle?

Watch video below to see the world premier of my new Daily Flip jingle!

I’ve always wanted a cheesy jingle. You know, like the ones you see on late night TV from the used car salesman in your town? Or the windows/garage door/plumber, etc…? You know what I’m talking about. They produce these seemingly low-quality, yet, extremely catchy jingles that they run on radio and TV over, and over, and over… Until it’s hammered into your brain. Hey, it works.

So, the other day on Twitter (add me) I said I wanted a jingle, and someone responded and said they could help me find someone to do it. Two hours later I have a jingle for the Daily Flip, and I love it. Twitter is kicking butt for me these days. Great news, because I quit it last fall, now I’m back and loving it, for now. So, does your brand have a jingle? It should?

Oh yeah, If you think you can make a better jingle than the one in my video, go ahead and send it to me. I’ll feature it on the show. For now though, watch the video below and enjoy my new jingle.
